For over 20 years the School of Computing, DCU have run an event to promote and celebrate their final year graduates on the BSc in Computer Applications course. This year the event took place in the Helix and was attended by some of Ireland's well recognised computing/IT companies such as Google Ireland, Amazon, IBM, AIB, Accenture, and many more. The guest speaker Mr. Padraig McKeon from 'Ireland Your Country Your Call' who is also a DCU graduate and Trustee, gave an inspiring and motivating speech to all, focusing on how our graduating students with the specific knowledge and skills they have in computing and future technology have the chance to focus on new opportunities even within the current economic climate.

After the speeches, everyone was invited over to the School of Computing to view open demonstrations of the various projects. Students covered a wide spectrum of application areas including location-based services, iphone/android development, distributed systems and gaming which showcases their skills with a variety of languages such as Java C/C++, Python and Ruby. It gave students a wonderful opportunity to promote their talent and hard work and an opportunity for employers to spot the talent. Many companies who attended, offered students the chance of interviews and recruitment opportunities. IBM ran a competition for those students who used open source software, to win a laptop. James Flynn from IBM announced the winner as student Matthew Fitzpatrick who was thrilled to win a brand new laptop. The title of Matthew's project was IsolibSDL - Open Source 2D Isometric Graphics Library. There was a wonderful atmosphere throughout the event and it proved to be both productive as well as successful.   Student Matthew Fitzpatrick, winner of the IBM laptop with Brendan Murray and James Flynn from IBM
