I have successfully defended my PhD and moved to QCRI, a member of Qatar Foundation

 

Profile:

I have successfully finished my PhD degree in the School of Computing in DCU under the supervision of Prof. Gareth Jones. My work was a part of the Centre of Next Generation Localization (CNGL) project that is funded by Science Foundation of Ireland (SFI), and sponsored by several companies such as, IBM, Microsoft, Symantec ...etc.

The title of my PhD is "Toward Higher Effectiveness for Recall-Oriented Information Retrieval: A Patent Retrieval Case Study"

Before that, I received my bachelor 2005 with honours from Electronics and Communication department, Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University. I joined IBM Egypt R&D group just after my graduation. In June 2007 I moved to Microsoft Innovation Centre in Egypt (CMIC) and I worked there till the end of 2008 when I moved to DCU for my PhD degree. I received my masters degree in November 2008 from Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University in the specialization of Natural Language Processing and Information Retrieval.

Publications

During my work in IBM, Microsoft, my Masters, and my PhD, I got the opportunity to publish some of my research in public papers. I had the chance to publish in leading conferences such as SIGIR, ECIR, EMNLP, and SPIRE, and I have two journal papers in Springer Information Retrieval and TOIS.

Patents

I have managed to have at least one patent filed with each place I worded for. I have one filed patent with IBM in the US and European patent offices, two filed patents with Microsoft in the US patent office, and one filed patent with DCU in the US patent office.
