Access to the campus

DCU is an 85-acre campus situated midway between Dublin airport (approx 5 miles) and Dublin city centre. The campus is bordered on two sides by Ballymun Road and Collins Avenue. The university is within easy access of a number of major routes, so travelling by car or by bus should be easy if you follow the directions below:

From the airport

By taxi

15/20 minute journey

By car

approx 10 mins. Follow the M1, direction city centre, and turn right at Whitehall Church into Collins Avenue. DCU is 500 metres on the left hand side.

By bus:

747

The 747 is called the "Airlink" coach service and is operated by Dublin Bus. It departs from outside the arrivals hall at Dublin Airport and serves Busáras (Central Bus Station), city centre and main Dublin railway stations. Ask the bus driver to let you out at Whitehall, and then walk 10 mins along Collins Avenue to DCU.

Fares on the Airlink service from Dublin Airport to Busaras (central bus station) are:

This is an Expresso service that runs once a day. The bus leaves Dun Laoghaire at 7.30am each morning and reaches DCU (Ballymun Road) at approx 8.30am. The end destination is the airport.

Dublin Airport, DCU (Ballymun Road), City Centre (O'Connell Street, D'Olier Street, Kildare St), Leeson St, Donnybrook, Stillorgan, Foxrock, Shankill

This is an Expresso service that runs once a day. The bus leaves the airport at 17.10 and stops at DCU (Ballymun Road) at approx 17.30. It also stops at the City Centre (O'Connell St, D'Olier St, Kildare St) and its end destination is Shankill.

The bus provides a service to the airport, leaving Shankill at 7.30am and arriving at DCU at approx 8.30am.

This is an hourly service from the airport to Dunlaoghaire (and vice versa) and stops at Whitehall. Ask the bus driver to let you out at Whitehall, and then walk 10 mins along Collins Avenue to DCU.

By Dart:

The nearest Dart stations to the university are Clontarf and Killester. They ensure that the university is accessible from all areas on the Dart line, including those south of the city. These two particular stations are regularly serviced by the 103 bus which stops on Collins Avenue.

By car:

From outside Dublin

From south east (N11) use Eastlink, East Wall Road, Clonliffe Road, Drumcondra Road. Turn left at the Whitehall/Collins Road junction and DCU is 500 metres on the left.

From other directions around the country, use the M50 (including Westlink if applicable). Come off the M50 at the Ballymun exit (Junction 4) and drive through Ballymun, turning left at the Collins Avenue/Ballymun Road crossroads (approx 500 metres). DCU and the multi-story carpark is 200 metres on the right on Collins Avenue.

From town:

Follow the airport road which takes you through Drumcondra and turn left at the Whitehall/Collins Avenue junction. DCU is 500 metres on the left.

It is also possible to drive through Phibsborough towards Glasnevin, turning into the Ballymun Road. DCU is on the right hand side of the dual carriageway, but you will need to drive further on to the Collins Avenue/Ballymun Road junction and turn right in order to avail of the multistory carpark (DCU is 500 metres on the right).

By bus

The main bus routes serving the campus are indicated on the bus route map provided by DCU's main website.

Bus timetables for all Dublin Bus routes servicing the campus are available online, while Bus Eireann also offers timetable information on their website.

DCU is serviced by the following routes: 103, 105, 11, 116, 11A, 11B, 13, 13A, 19A, 46X, 58X, 77B:

  1. Number 103 departs from Clontarf DART Station and the Omni Shopping Centre.
  2. Number 105 operates from Malahide, Portmarnock and Baldoyle and leaves DCU at 15.40 and 17.20 during term time.
  3. Numbers 11 and 11A service the city centre and Kilmacud from Wadelai Park and stops in O'Connell Street. The 11B also services the city centre and Belfield from Wadelai Park.
  4. The 13 and 13A services the city centre and Merrion Square from Poppintree.
  5. The 19A services the city centre and as far as Limekiln Avenue from Jamestown Road.
  6. Number 116 services DCU to Ballinteer and Clonskea.
  7. Numbers 46X and 58X (zone 2) run from Leeson Street Lower to Dublin Airport.
  8. Number 77X runs from Jobstown to DCU, however there is no departure from DCU.
  9. Number 116 runs only from Bird Avenue to DCU but not in reverse.

The following bus routes require a ten-minute walk from the bus stop but make the university accessible from, Rathfarnham, Dunlaoghaire, Mount Merrion, Blackrock, Shankill and Deansgrange.
